There is a wrong demand made by the clients these days about asking the corporate video theme, before releasing the work order. They contact multiple agencies and ask them to work on the corporate video theme, free of cost and share it.
This is completely unethical practice and shouldn’t be entertained by the media industry at all. In case you are bound to work on the theme or ideas before a confirmation, then demand a Pitching fee for it. Creative people need not have to work free of cost, no matter how bigger the client is. Service industry such as Doctors, lawyers, interior designers, writers, consultants, fashion, makeup and many more, do not work for free for any client and so do we.
Ideas are very precious and an idea is on what the entire campaign or video stands. One cannot be asked to work on it and share it free of cost. This is not a complimentary service in fact it is the most vital aspect in film making, how can it be free??
There goes lots of research and brainstorming to create a customized idea for a client’s corporate video and to do the entire process free of cost without the certainty of project confirmation, is foolish. And there is absolutely no guarantee from the clients end that he won’t use the same idea, tweak a bit to make its own and use it with a cheaper production house.
The fees charged by a production house is not only for the technical aspect of creating a video but creating an idea or theme is equally important in the process. The pre-production, where the idea takes form and scripting is done, is a vital aspect of film making, and this should not be expected or done free of cost.
